Database Properties - File Size

In one of my databases, Properties shows a file size of 9476096 bytes. The stored document, Rich Text and icon sizes total 4287094 bytes. What's using the other 5189002 bytes?

Is it unallocated space left over after I deleted some things? I'm curious because I read that it's no longer necessary to run compact and repair and I doubt that UR requires that much overhead!

Deleted items will take up space unless you have compacted. If you do not compact over time the unused space will be re-claimed with new items.

The other reason for the disparity is the space used by auto generated keywords. For me, this almost doubles the size of some of my (compacted) databases.
