Collaborative Tasks Manager

Hi Guys,

This isn't really a UR topic but you are the ideal demographic to ask so I hope you don't mind.

I'm looking for a non-web based task list manager that will run on all computers in my office. Each person will have their own list and be able to add tasks to their own and other lists which everyone can see. The program should synchronise over a LAN (network).

Looking for something fairly lightweight - I'm sure Outlook can do this via Exchange but that is overkill.

Any ideas for a program that would do this job?

Many thanks,
Daniel

I believe Accomplice might be close...
Too long since I played with it last time, thus I'm not sure.

I don't have anything to offer myself, but an even better demographic for raising this question might be http://www.outlinersoftware.com/

This sort of thing is a frequent topic of discussion there.

The simplest way to attain your objective is through ListPro and Beyond Compare 2 if you don't care about the integration with Outlook. One additional bonus: ListPro can be synchronized with your PDA. The Beyond Compare 2 is mainly used for automated sychronization of Task lists amongst networked computers.

Also MLO MyLife Organized, has synchronization over LAN built-in, available through menu Tools > Synchronize. You can select which parts of outline to synchronize.

You could use Ultra Recall -- create a database on a network share and have all users open the shared database. The next release will also provide some improvements for shared use (see http://www.kinook.com/Forum/showthre...?threadid=2166).

Indeed, shame on me, blinded by my one-user mode, I completely forgot:

Ultra Recall allows multiple users to open the same Info Database (located on a network share or shared folder) simultaneously for editing.

Ideally the solution would have some kind of "New Task for you" notification system.

We're trying Accomplice right now and it seems pretty good (if a little slow to sync). It's main weakness so far is lack of a notification system to indicate a new task has arrived, requring you to periodically check manually (or shout across the office!).

It has the advantage of being free as well. As good as UR is, it is a bit overpowered (pricey) if my other office workers are just using it as a synced task list!

Hi Janrif,
Not sure if it's a file or record level sychronization?

Great, I saw this in the road map :-)

Excellent that this is planned for the next release. I have been using UR on LAN with a couple of users, but it is mandatory to get some better functionality for multi-user before it becomes practical, especially for information that is edited often.

Keep up the good work, multi-user will be a great step forward.

..and the magic WHEN? ;-)

Regards
-Viggo.

Wow, that's great news :-)

How soon can I have a go at it after beta test starts?

Thanks!
