Consider learning about Customizing Panes - It appears that you have the Data Explorer and Search panes tabbed.

Right click on the Search tab, Close. Search pane is closed and thus no longer tabbed. View|Other Windows|Search will bring it back.

First of all, thanks for your help. However, your way won't work in my case. I discover a new trick after hundreds of permutation of trial and error. First I move the Search pane to the extreme right. Then, move it back to the extreme left. All tabs disappear.

hold any pane and move it all around, look how the arrows change. You can take one pane and then dock it to either letf/right/top/bottom of the whole application or letf/right/top/bottom of another pane (apart from item details one) or when you point to the top bar of the pane, it would become another tab of that pane. It's very intuitive.
