Display File Explorer content in item detail pane
Hi all ...
When I paste a folder path in the url address bar in UR e.g. c:\users\john, UR displays file explorer content in the editor/details pane i.e. file icons with date & size details. However, If I create a 'document' type tree item and set its URL to the same folder path, editor/detail pane displays blank. I also tried to use import wizard and check the box not to import files (just create a folder link). The import succeeded, but editor pane is still blank. If I create a link in the editor and set its target to the folder path, clicking on it display fine as expected. Is there a way to create a tree item that is, when clicked, displays the file explorer contents directly? Thanks |

Create a Folder item and add a URL item attribute of the folder to view.

One of the options I listed above to import the folder link does exactly that, but the folder contents do not display.
However, I did just try again to create a folder item type and added a URL attribute to it, still. no content (see image below) Pasting the URL into the address bar works just fine (see image below) |

Hi ...
I'm trying to understand UR behavior regarding these three scenarios ... 1. Info item of type folder with a URL attribute set: Page does not display. Stays blank. 2. Manually copying document template and setting URL attributes: Displays 'click here to open linked document'. 3. An info item created by dragging URL from UR internal browser url box as a link: Displays web page immediately. Often times I find myself using scenario two, but I want it to display web page just like it does in scenario 3. Why is it not? Item attributes for 2 & 3 seem identical. Furthermore, if template 'document' is listed under templates, why is not showing in the insert sibling/child menu? The Folder template is intended for displaying contents of a local folder, not a web page URL. If you have *folder in Tools | Options | Browser | File extensions to display in internal browser view and set a Folder item's URL attribute to a local file path, the file content will be rendered in an Explorer view within UR.
https://kinook.com/UltraRecall/Manual/browserdialog.htm https://kinook.com/UltraRecall/Manua...plorermode.htm The Document template is not intended to be created directly, but it used by UR when importing files. UR will assign additional attributes such as DocType, Document Size, Encoding, etc., when importing the file (these attributes are not user-creatable). https://kinook.com/UltraRecall/Manua...attributes.htm https://kinook.com/Forum/showthread.php?t=5233 https://kinook.com/UltraRecall/Manua...utesdialog.htm This is why it is hidden by default, although it can be shown via a registry setting. https://kinook.com/Forum/showthread.php?t=5619 |

Adding '*folder' works splendidly. Thanks
As for the http url, there are two ways to create a document item ... 1. Manually via creating a document item and set its url attribute. 2. Dragging from URL url box to the tree. Method 1 does not display the url page automatically. Method 2 does. Is this by design? Is there no way to have method 1 display it automatically at all? Thank |

The DocType attribute is not user-creatable, and there are complications with enabling that, since it isn't obvious what the value should be for various circumstances, there are other attributes that may need to be set based on the actual content, and various other things that would be missing if done manually -- parsing of the page content for searchable text, assigning an item icon from the web site or file, etc.
You can still use Item | Open Document (Ctrl+J) to open externally in the associated application. |

I think I found a workaround that just works!
1) I created a new info item using method 1 above i.e. dragging from UR url edit 2) Moved it to 'template' folder. 3) Now, it appears in the insert child/sibling menu 4) Update URL as per your needs. Thanks |

Yes, I should have mentioned that for a particular document type, you can always create your own template from an imported item for that document.
