Any kind of table structure?

Hi, Is any kind of table, grid structure a possibility (internally) within UR in the future?

That would be good if it was possible.

Some of my stuff definitely needs to to be in tabular/list form, with links to items.

Alternatively I'd love there to be an easy (1 or 2 click way) of creating external hyperlinks that I could put into Excel.

I don't know if I understood ...

you can insert table inside item, there is a button for it. You can directly drag an item into those cells which will create internal link (or copy/paste).

You can also create external links that will point to a given item. I don't know if this is the most effective way, but this seems to work:
assuming you have your database open, open another UR database, drag drop from one database to another - this will create absolute link to that item, right click on that link, hyperlink properties, and copy url. You can then place this url to excel.

if you always work only with one UR file, you can just drag drop the item within the same database and copy that url, however the link will not work if you click on that link from excel and your active UR database is another than the one from which the link originated.

As I said, I'm not sure this is the best advice, maybe someone can correct me ...

The url thing you mentioned won't work. Just tried again to reconfirm.

I think the issue I'm facing is that I've been using UR practically as a freeform note pad but now am at the point where I need structured data. I'm trying to make that work.

I've just understood that in UR terms that means being able to work with custom item attributes for searching and storage. That seems to be the closest thing to 2 dimensional data. I'll have to investigate that a bit more...

this certainly works, what is the result you get?

Imagine I have my main UR file called ur.urd in D:\test
If I drag one of the items from that file to an item info pane of another UR database file, in there I will see the link with the title of the dragged item. Right clicking on it and choosing "hyperlink properties" will show me

ur://D:/test/ur.urd?item=3340,1000

3340 is ItemID attribute of the dragged item.
In fact, you can create this link by yourself, and type it directly to excel, for more info see Options->Miscellaneous->Item command line format

ur://%DB_URL%?item=%ITEM%

If I now put this link into excel cell (right clicking in excel and choosing "hyperlink"), clicking on it will put me directly to that ur.urd file, and exactly to item 3340.

EDIT:Sorry to have duplicated this, I got interrupted before I could post, then didn't Preview cause the Preview strips the Attachment.

On the Excel side, right-click on the cell you want to paste to and chose "Hyperlink" - you'll get the dialog shown in the screen shot below (from Excel 2003).

Here's a sample link:
ur://C:/Data%20-%20UR/LMT%20Office/LMT%20Listings.urd?item=6625,3229,1000

Once you've established the path portion, you can (working in a single db) via various means create an internal link for an Item, then right-click to determine it's hyperlink properties - the Item node path to root shown above.

Ultra Recall supports a command-line or URL syntax:
To use the URL syntax, enter a command-line format of
ur://%DB_URL%?item=%ITEM_PATH%

quant it was the dragging to ANOTHER database that I was missing. I had kept on dragging internally in the same database.
