Inserting application objects (e.g., Excel tables) into UR editor
In my desperate attempt to find another way to work with tables, I stumbled upon this feature that I did not know existed.
On Windows 10, the WordPad app allows you to 'Insert Object' such as Excel sheets, PDFs, Word Docs, etc. I inserted an Excel spreadsheet into WordPad, then, I copied it from WP to UR. When I click on on it, the all-mighty Excel opened within the UR editor. There is no direct way, to my knowledge, to insert objects into UR directly. Not sure why, thus my inquiry. Is inserting such application objects officially supported by UR? Any concerns at all? Thanks |

I have used this similar method-
Create a text item. Open the Document (CTL+J) > it opens in Word externally. Insert an Excel sheet into the Word doc (Insert Table) save and 'Click here to resume internal editing" However, I believe if I edited within UR, the Excel interface lacked the File Save function. CTL+S didn't work either. I had to reopen the document externally to save the edits. I didn't do this often enough to discover if the Options|Document Editing would affect it. |

That works too. Thanks
Experience-wise, it was not a smooth one. Multiple glitches. For example, while editing the inserted excel sheet, if you do a right-click you get two menus on top of each other, one for UR and second for excel. UR hangs for few minutes and occasionally crashes. You are right. There isn't a way to save externally if you want to share it. I didn't find one. It was not usable for me. Instead, I insert the entire file (stored) in UR and open externally for editing. Just make sure to enable UR to save externally edited files for excel. I also have a folder info item in UR that is pointing to OneDrive. I can link to the file from there and OneDrive takes care of syncing the file outside of UR. Thanks |
