PDFs:
The proper pdf icons are created on my system. I think UR uses the file icons that Windows displays. In Windows, are your icons displaying as you want them?

Your observation is correct. This has advantages and disadvantages, but you can easily update your folder by manually synchronizing it (CTRL+F5).
