Contacts Folder > Import Truncation

For Contacts Folder, when importing Contacts from Outlook, the last character of Chinese Name/Company of each Contact Item is truncated by UR.
For example, ³¯¤j¤å will be truncated to ³¯¤j.
The last byte truncation also occur in the Company attribute (field).

I'm not seeing this behavior. Using Outlook 2003 SP 3, I created a contact with the Name of the first 4 characters of the line '<4 chars>Unicode()? in Trad'l Chinese' from http://unicode.org/standard/WhatIsUnicode.html and a Company of all characters on that same line up to the ) character. Importing into UR Pro 3.2.6, the Name and Company in the UR contact show the entire value (not truncated). Which version/SP of Outlook are you using? Please drag a problem contact to Explorer and ZIP and send that file, a .urd file with the synced contact, and the info from Help | About | Install Info to support@kinook.com. Thanks.

In light of the different outcome you observe, I investigated about the codepage, charset, ...etc. and exhausted all probable causes. Eventually I discover one definitive repeatable cause--the different way you and I import the OL Contacts. When filing my original post, I used the Link icon (see below) in the Ultra Recall toolbar in OL and resulted in the last char truncation. Now, instead, I use Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V to import the same OL Contact. Indeed, no last char truncation occurs per your observation.

The question: why is the last char truncation caused by the Link to Ultra Recall Icon?

Just butting in...

If you are doing a manual Copy-Paste, why not use the Copy UR icon to the left of the Link icon in the OL toolbar?

Sychronization Issue-Contacts

When synchronizing contacts items with Outlook, the following defects are found:
1. UR's doesn't match Outlook's .
2. Instead, UR will device the using Outlook's Last Name + First Name.
3. Subsequently, UR synchronizes back the to Outlook's and alter the .
4. The in UR can't be changed (F2).
5. For Chinese input, UR truncates the last character of all data fields, except the remark.
6. When sychronizing back to Outlook, the last Chinese character in all data fields, except the remark, is truncated.

Please help. Thanks.

The following screenshot shows the Chinese character truncations in all data fields in UR. The background is the Outlook Contacts window, the foreground the corresponding UR Info Item.

The most intriguing mystery is why UR spares the Chinese character truncations in the remark. Apparently, UR handles the data fields and remark differently.

Hi Kinook,
Thanks for jogging my memory. Again, I confirm Ctrl+V works fine. But 2 issues remain unsettled:
1. What casues the difference? Are pressing the Link icon and pressing Ctrl+C/Ctrl+v functionally the same? Are the both supposed to call the same function/method?
2. Why isn't the Item Title allowed to change? Why doesn't the Item Title adopt Outlook's File as?
Please enlighten me. Thanks.

I don't know -- it works as expected in my tests.
