I have a few questions reguarding Office 2007 intergration, I am running Windows 7 x64 and URp. I found the registry setting I need to allow MS office to display in UR, so I am ok there.

I can get Word and Excel to display, but when I open an excel document I see the spreadsheet but no ribbion, which is what I explect, when I open a word document I see the ribbon, why is there differnt displays?

Also I like to keep a copy of my emails inside UR, but when I click on them the internal viewer is not using Office to display the message, I would have to open it externally to see imbedded images in emails and proper formating, it looks like its using an some standard view from within UR to display the message internally.

I have all the right setting in the Broweser option, not sure what I am doing wrong?

Regarding the difference between Excel and Word when hosted in IE within UR, that is determined by the Excel/Word implementations of COM/OLE hosting.

Regarding the display of Outlook messages in UR, you can try 3 different viewers for .msg files -- Options | Documents | MIME Viewer, Options | Browser | browser view, or Options | Editor | text editor. Outlook can often display messages with formatting when using the browser view option, but for some messages it will open the message externally. The built-in MIME viewer does not show formatting or images.

I've never been able to get my computer to integrate Office extension files with URP so that I could edit them without jumping to the native apps externally.

I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but I've gone through the effort to make it work enough times to give up trying.

If someone could lay out the instructions again, replete with screen shots of the dialogs and what the results should look like, I'd give it another try.

I can view RTF files just fine within URP - but not docx, or any of the other Office file formats. URP does parse the text for docx files, though, so at least I can see and search on the text.

Did you do that on a Vista machine? When I try to view the Windows Folder Options dialog, the File Types panel doesn't display, and my understanding (could be wrong) is it's not available in Vista.

I am not at home right now but on Windows 7 (and I think on Vista if memory serves) the folder options is under the control panel as is default programs - they are separate entries now.

I appreciate your reply, but I can get to the Folder Options dialog just fine. What I can't do is view/use the File Types panel that was shown in the video. And looking at the Control Panel, either I'm blind, or there's nothing there for File Types.

Is anyone else able to work with MS Office Files *within* URP on a Vista machine?

The recording was done on Windows XP w/ Office 2010 (you didn't indicate which version of Windows & Office you have). The File Types tab has been removed in Windows Vista and later, requiring the Browse in same window setting to be configured manually in the registry. See here for more details:

Alternatively, download this file and double-click in Explorer: http://www.kinook.com/Download/Misc/Office.reg

You can remove the path from the URL, but the extension is needed (so shorten to filename.xlsx or .xlsx).

Why the .zip extention?

Office 2007+ files ending in x (i.e., .docx) are actually stored in ZIP file format.

Thanks, so this is the better way then to just add the .docx extention?

It's the simplest way to set it up. If you don't want to view other ZIP files in UR, you might use the actual Office file extensions instead.

Not sure what happened but I was once able to view word documents in the internal browser now there opening externally all the time. EXCEL still opens in the internal browser, what do I need to check?

I reapplyed the registry setting for office and windows 7 and now its working properly again.
